THE CAPTIVE MIND AND OTHER ILLUSTRATIONS “METAPHORS OF OUR TIMES”
An exhibition of illustrations by Janusz Kapusta,
27th May till 12th June.
The Captive Mind by Czes?aw Mi?osz is an evocative exploration that delves into the inner world of the cultural and psychological machinery of Communism. For the exclusive edition, published by The Limited Edition Club in 1984, Janusz Kapusta was commissioned to contribute his illustrations. The Captive Mind is described by the author as having been written under great inner conflict. Kapusta’s illustrations capture this human struggle by employing an expert hand and untamed imagination. A marriage of the practical skills of a craftsman and an extraordinary quickness of mind result in a collection of graphic works that are fascinating in their simplicity and sharpness, cleverly utilizing the language of political illustration, subversion and satire.
Janusz Kapusta has won many prestigious awards. Drawing from his background in mathematics and philosophy his work is multi faceted and wide ranging. He has contributed to publications from the New York Times to Philosophy Today. Janusz Kapusta’s work can be found in the collections of museums and galleries around the world including Museum of Modern Art in New York, Museum of Modern Art in Lodz, The IBM Collection, The Limited Edition Club as well as private collections including that of Vice President Al Gore.
At CFCP we are honoured to present a selection of works by this highly engaging artist; his illustrations for “The Captive Mind” along with other award winning illustrations.
Please join us for the opening that will take place on the 27th May at 6pm in The Centre for Creative Practices, 15 Pembroke Street Lower, Dublin 2.
