Poles enter local Irish politics

imageLocal Government Training Course for Polish activists who want to engage in the local politics in Ireland will be launched by Lord Mayor, Emer Costello, Minister O’Dowd and Polish Ambassador as a part of “Vote! You are at home” campaign.

2nd September, 3pm
at the Polish Embassy, 5 Ailesbury Rd

The training run by Forum Polonia and School for Leaders Association in cooperation with the Polish Embassy in Dublin aims to prepare Polish activists for the forthcoming local elections. It is designed for those who wish to stand as candidates, educate and encourage their communities to register and vote. The 7-day intense course giving them necessary knowledge and skills will include workshops and seminars with Irish political figures, mentors and trainers from Poland.

Polish activist Barnaba Dorda from Forum Polonia explains the purpose of the campaign: “Since the enlargement of the European Union almost 10 years ago, Poles who moved to Ireland have settled down here with their families and became an integral part of the society. They also bought houses and progressed their careers here. Poles now want to take responsibility and play a vital role in developing local communities.

The training itself is a part of broader campaign “Vote! You are at home” which Forum Polonia along with School for Leaders Association are about to launch. The campaign aims to encourage the Polish community to register and vote in the local elections in Ireland as well as to enhance sense of belonging to their local communities.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Oisín Quinn strongly supports the action: “ I am glad to see the Polish community actively engaging in the life of Irish towns and cities. I see them every day living, working, attending cultural events, truly integrating in our city and I believe they will play a significant role in the forthcoming local elections. I am happy to see such an initiative”.

Invitation to Polish fans to meet Irish fans

Invitation to Polish fans to meet Irish fans

Irish supporters group You Boys in Green (YBIG) will extend a friendly welcome to Polish fans for the upcoming friendly between Ireland and Poland at Lansdowne Road on February 6th.

The welcome Irish fans got from our Polish hosts during Euro 2012, from Poznan, Gdansk, Torun and beyond was a very special one, and for many fans it was the abiding memory of the tournament. With a large away support expected for the game, YBIG would like to invite Polish and Irish fans to meet up before and after the match.

Prior to the game, which kicks off at 7.45pm, YBIG will play Polish fans in a friendly match at Irishtown Stadium, Ringsend, in conjunction with the FAI as part of their Gathering Event.

And after that fans’ match, supporters from Ireland and Poland will meet in Scruffy Murphy’s, and after the game in Doyle’s Bar.

David Byrne from YBIG said. “It’s safe to say that the Euro’s will not be remembered for the football we played, but the friendships and hospitality we received from the Poles, we hope that both sets of fans can meet up next week and help forge stronger links between both countries.”

About YBIG

Established in 2005, YBIG has become the number one voice for Irish supporters. We have produced 27 fanzines, which were distributed to the fans on international match days. In November 2011, our first YBIG issue was given away through our YBIG media partners The Irish Daily Star in a new A4 size.

YBIG has been the driving force behind various fans’ initiatives, such as the ‘Testimonial for Dave Langan Dinner’, which raised nearly €67,000 for the former international star.

The ‘Going Green’ for our last two play-off matches with France and Estonia, which received massive nationwide media exposure was also the brainchild of YBIG.

YBIG, in conjunction with the FAI, also run the very successful ‘Singing Section’ in Lansdowne Road adding colour and noise from our 1000 Singing Section attendees.

The YBIG forum – www.ybig.ie/forum – has thousands of Irish members using the  site to arrange Ireland tickets, away game travel and accommodation and much more.

“Polish Theatre Ireland is a very welcomed addition to the Irish theatre scene. (…) They are a pleasure to be around and they offer a way of expanding audiences, providing a range of new works and provide a fertile source of new possibilities for Irish theatre makers”

Gavin Kostick, Fishamble: The New Play Company, about Polish Theatre Ireland

Polish Theatre Ireland is once again bringing contemporary Polish writing to the Irish stage. The play Delta Phase, which is now a very popular text among Polish theatre directors, has been specially translated into English and will be theatrically examined by two Irish directors and performed by both Polish and Irish actors. It is planned to be held in an exciting venue of Theatre Upstairs at Lanigan’s Bar which currently brings an interesting range of new Irish writing to the audiences of Dublin and – by staging Delta Phase – gives Polish Theatre Ireland another opportunity to add their own Polish-Irish voice to the Irish repertoire.

Delta Phase tells a tragicomic story of three boys who – while living life on the edge – trigger a series of tragic consequences that change those same lives forever.  Powered by alcohol and drugs – the three seek to reach a drug-fuelled synergy that they call Delta Phase. Their lack of goal and sense in life lead them to be against, to resist and to destroy, without any particular reason but for fun and the simple joy of doing it.“A Polish play in English set in Ireland? It’s not a problem. Everybody will recognise the characters of Delta Phase. There’s plenty of darkness and confusion in the text which will be exciting to play with. The audience will be taken into a different theatrical world of laughs and shocks and I am really delighted to be working again with Polish theatre in Dublin.” – says John Currivan, Codirector of the play.

The play will be staged in English for the first time and the author Radosław Paczocha is going to pay Dublin a visit to review his text in a new linguistic and theatrical dimension. On this occasion  Polish Theatre Ireland is holding an open Q&A discussion with the writer after the show on the 24th November 2012, which will be held by Gavin Kostick of Fishamble Theatre. The production of Delta Phase is proudly supported by Polish Embassy in Dublin and Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw.
